Norway has had its wealth tax (formuesskatt) for more than a century. The following paper discusses the definition of a taxable person and the tax base for the wealth tax, including issues of territoriality and the treatment of family foundations and trusts. It also describes the approach to valuation of assets, issues of tax planning and enforcement, and the relationship with other taxes.

The paper is published by the Wealth Tax Commission and written by Wiersholm partner Bettina Banoun.
