– It is becoming increasingly important to work with the SDGs, not only to address the major challenges we face related to war, climate change, food shortages and energy shocks, but also to keep up with the demands of our customers and clients, and to understand the environment they live and do business in, Hanken said after attending the forum.

Wiersholm is an active member of the UN Global Compact Network, which is the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative. Global Compact is a non-binding United Nations pact to encourage businesses and firms worldwide to adopt sustainable and socially responsible policies. The ambition is to accelerate and scale the global collective impact of business by delivering the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals).

The SDG Investment Forum in Paris on June 30 was the first post-COVID-19 outbreak hosted by the UN Global Compact and Global Compact Networks in Europe. Nearly 150 participants from both public and private sectors, including the CFOs of major European companies such as Danone, Enel, Holcim and Capgemini, alongside representatives from the UN, civil society and academia, met to discuss how the private sector can play a greater role in directing capital towards the SDGs. Kjell Rakkenes, Executive Vice President Sustainability, Society, and Communications in Nortura also participated and presented Nortura’s strategies for working with the SDGs.

One of the main topics for the day was how businesses can internalize the SDGs in their daily operations and use them as a roadmap for transformation.

– The SDG strategies, approaches and focus areas vary between different sectors and industries, but there is also a lot to learn from interacting with each other and listening to the experience of our partners across sectors and businesses, Hanken added.
